Folks,
I drove a NH TC 33 HST supersteer the other day and am setting up a test drive of a L 3400 HST.
Has anyone had experience with both in terms of durability/maintenance?

I've ot a 2002 TC33D with HST and SS. Use it commercially--and really put it through its paces. I'm not easy on it one bit. Mechanically for its size it's a lil' brute. It will pull any implement in the 6' range. Electrically, well, its had its share of problems which I don't hear of much on this board. The draw back with this type of tractor and there are other mfg's that have the same set up for the cutting brakes being on the same side which renders one pedal inoperable unless you have three feet. ....

Could you elaborate on the electrical problems?
I ask because I found a 2004 DX 33 Case about 2.5 hours from me with a 72in rear discharge MMM, snow blower and L 114 loader with 39 hours for 18,900. Another member here said the 33 series has been known to have some electrical problems like you mentioned but that he would'nt let that prevent him from purchacing the tractor. Just wondering if you encountered enough problems with your tractor that would make you worried about buying this type tractor without a warranty.

Even with all the problems I've had, I'd buy another one. The devil you know is better than the devil you don't.
Keep in mind that those Cases are really a rebadged New Holland, so if there are problems with one brand it follows they both will.
The problems I've had/have:
Starter, replaced at 20hrs (have 445 now) once but the replacement still doesn't work unless you cycle the switch 5 or 6 times (it's a Ford so I'm used to it). Don't have the $250 for a new one so I just deal with it.
The main fuse on a pigtail kept blowing; dealer didn't know why, now it has no fuse; wires direct connected.
The ignition switch is a joke---it's in an area that is constantly bathed with dust, pollen, seeds from the engine fan. Was replaced once under warranty (I did the work). When I took it apart it was full of crap---the dummies didn't even seal the switch against dirt. The replacement had silicone gooped around it which just recently didn't prove realiable. New switch $50 plus $28 shipping overnite. New switch doesn't have sealer and is again open to the elements.
The main fuse panel under hood has a rubber door covering it but it is open from the back so it too gets bathed with debris from the fan.
The limit switch wiring for the range selector hangs so low that a weed or twig can disconnect it without notice so that when you go to start it just clicks.
Last year the fuel cutoff circuit stopped working via the ingition switch relay system. It's direct wired now to the ignition switch.
Blinker directional switch works sometimes. New switch $28 plus regular shipping.
The battery is in a really stupid spot---right in front of the radiator. It bounces up and down with the tractor, or tilts when going up or down a grade (when I smooth new pond embankments or during not-for-the-weak-stomached brush cutting excursions). Anywho, the battery sloshes it's acid out and it drips down and on the battery platform. What doesn't drip, along with the fumes when charging all get sucked through the radiator oxidizing the copper fins and corroding aluminum parts. I replaced it with an sealed automotive gel battery.

The L-3400 doesn't offer a mid PTO if it might be needed. The L-3430 is more comparable tractor to the 33 model then the L-3400 is for features.. Dependining on what you need to do with them might help to make a better desision on which one can be the best value for you.. ....

(it's a Ford so I'm used to it).
Is New Holland back at Ford? Did Ford not sell them to a foreign company years ago? Is it FIAT that now owns New Holland and Case?

KT: Well, I can still a Ford employee discount on blue equipment, but not yellow constrcution equipment. Seems the yellow part of the deal when Ford negotiated for buying/selling NH was left on the table. I'm told that Case-New Holland doesn't own all of Case so they may or may not be involved in Fiat, however they do own Kobelco so I'm told, or a part of it that makes excavators.
By the way I considering--only considering---sunscreens on the canopy---the type used on high-end motors homes. e-bay has them for 1/5 the retail price.

Thanks for the heads up ... based on your input I'm going on an extended road trip ... actually I intended on going to Jamestown tomorrow and returning to make my decision between the DX and TC however I'll now be traveling on for an overnight in Grandforks to look at a L3430 ... can you belive the wife sugested it :-) actually she wants me to get this tractor as much if not more than me.
So, I'll share what I ended up getting in a couple days

The DX's do have some great discounts right now but it does depend on what you may want for a end result as to what I'd recommend. I'll clear up a bit that CNH which is the boss of Case-IH and New Holland is owned by Fiat. All entities of the merger were consumed in it. Fiat now owns the part of Consolidated Diesel that Case owned as well as all the rest of the divisions unless a different buy-out or sale might have happened to a division that I'm unaware of. ....
